Lt. Governor Holds Town Hall Meeting on Energy

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
No. 09-002

(September 17, 2009, Anchorage, AK) - Lieutenant Governor Craig E. Campbell and Vermont Lieutenant Governor Brian Dubie held a town hall meeting on renewable energy today at the Cold Climate Housing Research Center (CCHRC) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Facilitated by UAF Chancellor Brian Rogers, the meeting was an opportunity for citizens and members of the energy community to learn about the administration’s vision for energy in Alaska. Both lieutenant governors made remarks, followed by questions from the audience and a tour of the CCHRC.

“Alaska is a unique place to do research and find solutions to energy needs,” Lieutenant Governor Campbell said. “Natural gas is important in Alaska and we're working to get gas to Fairbanks and Southcentral. Wind power in Alaska is critical to our future. The development of wind power is essential to communities in our state.”

“Lieutenant Governor Campbell and I are in agreement that we need to diversify our energy sources,” Lieutenant Governor Dubie said. “But it’s not just about producing more power, it's about using our power more wisely. It’s been a privilege to be here and I'm excited about the opportunities that exist for partnerships between Vermont and Alaska and that of our universities.”

The lieutenant governors met with local leaders in Unalakleet Wednesday and visited a wind turbine construction site that is being developed by Alaska Village Electrical Cooperative.
